ACP ENGINEERING GET A BITE OF THE APPLE

ACP Engineering (Wrexham) Ltd have recently finished working on two new Apple stores in Liverpool and Bristol where the following was undertaken:

  • Structural steel supports for the concerete floor
  • Steel frame to support glass staircase & stainless cladding
  • Balustrade supports on steel beams

Contemporary Glass & Stainless Steel Staircases

Apple stores are renowned for their trademark glass and stainless steel staircases like the one shown which is an image of the staircase at the Belfast store.

Whilst they look very stylish and contemporary they leave very, very little margin for error due to their design.

"There is simply very little tolerance on these staircases and so accuracy is key" said ACP's MD, Chris Nelson.

The site had to be measured accurately and the steelwork was then fabricated from scratch to fit.

Due to the weight, size and close confinement of space ACP's mini-crawler crane was yet again a godsend!

A Team Effort

This really was a team effort and as it was a brand new site there were problems that needed to be overcome that simply could not be forseen as they had never encountered them before.

From ACP Engineering's draughtsman through the the fitting team, we worked as a team meeting our client's tight schedules which meant the team having to work through the night on occasions.

"It was critical that we met our client's tight schedules and so that meant us doing what was necessary, the lads worked very long unsociable hours on this project" said Andy Nelson who headed up the fitting team.

This was an interesting project which required us working closely with the German glass stair manufactuers, Sealy Glass and a team of Bulgarian fitters who specialise in stainless steel cladding. All teams worked extremely well together to provide the client with the high standard workmanship they demand.
